I stole this from badfae, because its perfect, and I'm too lazy to write my own!

Good friend--and great mom-- originalsnarf has a pair of equally fantastic daughters, Naomi and Moriah. One of Naomi's teachers has nominated her for this program: http://www.peopletopeople.com/OurPrograms/SLP/Pages/default.aspx. However...it costs money, money that's hard to come by in a one-income household, particularly with the kind of expenses the family has had this past year (Moriah has been fighting cancer).

Click here: http://home.earthlink.net/~ajrieth/JournalsforaJourney.html to find out how you can help Naomi have this wonderful opportunity (and get something pretty for yourself at the same time)!

I'm going to try to remember some of the details of a dream that I had the other night, its been a few days, but at the time, and for a few hours afterward, it was still very vivid in my mind. That's odd for me, actually... to be able to remember a dream so clearly.

The setting: I can only imagine that it was a zoo, there was an exhibit with hills and such but inside a body of water. There was a public viewing area IN the water next to it, and then a restaurant on the shore.

Keep getting distracted, better finish later

What's with Disney?

  • Mar. 6th, 2007 at 7:59 PM

I just saw a commercial and felt the need to express a pet peeve. I really don't understand why Disney is re-releasing their animated movies on a "limited time only" basis. I would love to have some of these movies, I cherished a lot of them as a kid, and even as I've gotten older... but I don't necessarily have the money to blow on DVDs at the time that they are releasing them. That upsets me. Isn't it bad business for them too? Why would they want to deny themselves sales? I realize that the Disney Co. is richer that poop, but sheesh.

Damn Nerves

So, the weekend was really nerve-wracking, for reasons that only need be known to those that already know... and then today at work was miserable. I'm ready to start pulling out some hair.

I get into work this morning, and my boss comes over and tells me that Beth (who is newly hired, and on her first day) is going to be spending the day in my lab, training. So they're training this girl on how to do MY job, and even things that they won't teach ME how to do, and no one is explaining to me why.

God... why is it that when it rains, it pours?

Pure Nerd

  • Sep. 25th, 2006 at 12:11 PM

69 % Nerd, 43% Geek, 34% Dork
For The Record:

A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia.
A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one.
A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions.
You scored better than half in Nerd, earning you the title of: Pure Nerd.

The times, they are a-changing. It used to be that being exceptionally smart led to being unpopular, which would ultimately lead to picking up all of the traits and tendences associated with the "dork." No-longer. Being smart isn't as socially crippling as it once was, and even more so as you get older: eventually being a Pure Nerd will likely be replaced with the following label: Purely Successful.

Nostalgia

  • Sep. 23rd, 2006 at 12:19 PM

So, I tend to be a bit of an insomniac from time to time... I hate sleeping. Last night I didn't make it to bed until 4 am, and I'm just now getting out of bed (its a little after noon). I still feel like a college student with these sleeping habits, but if that were totallt the case, I would have been at a frat party until 4 am instead of sitting at the computer, but hey, I love my online activities. Not to mention that I'm thankful that I'm not waking up with a hangover, either... that's definitely something I'm happy to say I've outgrown.

Where was I going with this?

Oh yeah, my half asleep brain. I tend to always have the TV on when I'm sitting at the computer, it gives my ADD brain something to look at while web pages are loading. After flipping through my usual favorite channels (TNT, TBS, USA, Lifetime, Animal Planet, TLC, 8 HBO Channels, and a few others), and being unable to find anything worth watching, I revved up the HBO On Demand and decided to watch Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie. Geeky, I know... but I AM a geek. I admit to watching the show back when it firt appeared on TV. I was in junior high, and it came on before I had to leave to walk to school. Its not a half bad movie, 6 kids with super powers and big metal toys to play with when the bad guys come around... every kid loves that kind of thing.

Anyway, this has me thinking (not for the first time, I've had this conversation with a few people around the same age as me). They just don't make kids shows and cartoons like they used to. I'm too tired to really think of many specific examples, but if you're anywhere in your mid 20s and early 30s, you know what I'm talking about. We had it good when we were kids, Saturday morning was actually a good reason to get out of bed and watch cartoons!

I'm done ranting for the time being, I can't believe I've even written a post this long. For anyone that really knows me, they'll know this is really some kind of accomplishment. Ciao.

Things to cheer you up
